Abstract
The pharmacological activity (hypoglycemic and other) of polysaccharides from the aerial parts of the Heliotropium plant (H. lasiocarpum, a member of the Boraginaceae family) has been studied for the first time. In vivo studies of water-soluble H. lasiocarpum polysaccharides administered to experimental animals with a glucose load demonstrated their high hypoglycemic activity. They also demonstrated antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties, which have a positive effect on patients with diabetes.
