Abstract

The integration of oncology and palliative care has become an essential approach in the management of patients with cancer, particularly in light of the growing therapeutic complexity and the prolonged survival resulting from advances in antineoplastic therapies. Traditionally associated with end-of-life care, palliative care has been progressively incorporated from the time of diagnosis of life-threatening illnesses, promoting symptom relief, psychosocial support, and improved quality of life. This study aimed to analyze, in light of the scientific literature, the foundations, challenges, and implications of integrating antineoplastic therapies with palliative care, with an emphasis on humanized care. It is a narrative literature review based on international guidelines, clinical trials, and contemporary reviews. The findings demonstrate that early integration of palliative care improves clinical outcomes, reduces futile interventions, and strengthens patient autonomy. It is concluded that the articulation between oncological treatment and palliative care represents an essential paradigm in contemporary oncology, centered on the person rather than solely on the disease.
