Abstract

<jats:p>The article tells about the persecution of the Russian Orthodox Church in the first decades of Soviet rule, with an emphasis on the Zhadovsky Monastery. The main focus is on the policy of destroying religious institutions, alienating property, closing churches, and repressing the clergy. Using the example of Archimandrite Kallistos and the brethren, the methods of Soviet power are shown, including the fabrication of criminal cases and ideological suppression. The purpose is to confirm the exceptional role of Archimandrite Kallistos in the life of the Kazan Holy Mother Of God Zhadovsky Monastery. Objectives: 1. Study the biography of Archimandrite Callistus and his path to managing the monastery. 2. Analyze documents and evidence related to the management of the monastery during the period of activity of Archimandrite Callistus. 3. Identify the main problems and achievements of the monastery during the period of leadership of Archimandrite Callistus. Novelty: our research reveals the role of Archimandrite Callistus in the history of the Zhadovsky monastery; similar research has not been carried out before us; in addition, the data we collected is already being used to canonize the archimandrite for his invaluable works for the benefit of the Holy Church.</jats:p>
