Abstract

Dentistry is a field that is highly conducive to artificial intelligence applications, as it’s a discipline where imaging techniques are extensively used and diagnosis relies largely on radiographic evaluations. The use of artificial intelligence algorithms in the analysis of panoramic and periapical radiographs and cone-beam computed tomography images enables the early detection of pathologies, the identification of anatomical variations, and more precise treatment planning. In challenging cases, such as variations in root canal morphology, identification of complex anatomies like C-shaped canals, detection of root canal orifices, and identification of pathological conditions within the root, artificial intelligence systems make significant contributions to endodontic diagnosis and treatment processes by analyzing radiographic and tomographic data. Artificial intelligence systems, particularly those using machine learning and deep learning algorithms, can identify and interpret complex patterns in medical images that are not easily distinguishable by the human eye. Today, machine learning algorithms can be trained to detect root fractures and many other pathologies with high accuracy in dental radiographs.
