Abstract

The paper aims to identify problematic cases in which capitalisation norms for compound proper nouns of foreign origin in Bulgarian have become inconsistent. The specific characteristics of this class of compound foreign proper names are outlined, and both linguistic and extralinguistic factors contributing to variation in usage are analysed. The orthography of foreign compound proper names is a highly relevant topic in the current linguistic landscape, characterised by their rapid influx and widespread use, as well as the active formation of such names based on foreign-language models.
