Abstract

A major reason that climate change has become one of the most pressing issues influencing modern education systems is the need to develop new types of school leadership that will incorporate climate literacy, sustainability, and equity into daily activities. The chapter explores how schools can develop climate-literate communities through the integration of sustainability in curriculum, campus life, and school culture. It points out that there is a disproportionate application of climate education to the global community, the dangers of increasing inequalities, and the structural and political obstacles that limit school leaders. On the basis of global examples and framework implementation of SDG 4.7 and other UNESCO programs on Education and Sustainable Development initiatives, the chapter presents practical leadership policies that will promote equitable climate literacy, green school transformation, and community resilience. Finally, it proposes that education is not only susceptible to climate change but also in a strategic position to lead the climate change solutions.
