Abstract
The integration of Digital Twin technology with 5G and emerging 6G networks is transforming autonomous vehicle systems by enabling real-time synchronization, predictive analytics, and collaborative decision-making. Ultra-low-latency communication, network slicing, and edge–cloud processing allow twins to mirror vehicle behavior with high fidelity while handling large sensor streams. These capabilities enhance hazard prediction, multi-vehicle coordination, and city-scale mobility simulation. Advancements in 6G such as terahertz connectivity and AI-native networking further improve scalability and system resilience. This chapter examines the architecture, performance needs, and practical benefits of DT-AV integration, supported by case studies from China and South Korea. It also highlights challenges in scalability, security, and interoperability, and outlines future research in quantum communication, federated learning, and self-evolving twins.
