Abstract

<jats:p>The pace of AI usage among industrial systems is changing the nature of skills that are important, the organization of work, and the uniqueness of things that humans can bring to the table. This chapter presents ways of future-proofing the workforce through marrying human cognitive abilities with AI capabilities. It introduces the so-called concept of hybrid skills, a fusion of technical, interpersonal, ethical, and adaptive abilities, and the way they will be crucial in Industry 4.0/5.0 conditions. Based on the current empirical research, the chapter elucidates the new demands, gaps, and opportunities of upskilling, reskilling, and lifelong learning. Sectoral illustrations are used to look at the ways human-AI synergy enhances productivity and does not disadvantage human agency, creativity, and wellbeing.The purpose of the chapter is to give practitioners, educators, and policymakers a roadmap towards creating resilient workforces, able to continuously disruption-proof and to capitalize on the opportunities of the human-AI collaboration.</jats:p>
