Abstract
The chapter examines how AI augments human leadership. Although 88% of organisations use AI, fewer than one-third succeed, signalling the need for leaders who blend emotional intelligence with technological fluency. It draws on socio-technical systems theory, transformational and empathetic leadership, adult learning theory, and human-AI collaboration to propose a four-layer framework: AI Intelligence, Human Leadership, Interaction, and Outcome. The model shows that agentic AI can enhance behavioural insight, emotional sensitivity, and personalised growth when paired with empathy, relational judgement, and ethical awareness. Human-AI coaching ecosystems can democratise learning, strengthen inclusivity, and improve decision-making, yet raise issues of privacy, fairness, and power imbalance. The chapter concludes with future research directions, including validation studies, cross-cultural insights, longitudinal assessment, co-leadership models, and new competency frameworks for ethical and effective AI-enabled leadership.
