Abstract

<jats:p>In many cases, innovation is presented as a facilitator of efficiency and productivity, or a competitive differentiator. But equity-averse innovation can compound society's systemically unjust distributions and cast out the human, further entrenching exclusionary practices. In this chapter, explore how this cross-sector leadership might be scheming to produce ecosystems characterized by innovation and equity. Through the lens of collaborative governance, equity-centred design thinking, and systems change, the chapter connects the dots on what it means to infuse equity into innovation. Positive cases of response demonstrate the importance of participatory leadership, community voice, and the system's coherence between business, government and civil society. Tools are offered to aid leaders who want to make Use of these inclusive strategies, balancing justice and efficiency. Recommendations and future directions for research are proposed, including a need for advocating leadership models of social relevance, inclusion, and equity in innovation.</jats:p>
