Abstract

This chapter explores how Industry 4.0 and emerging technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT)) are redefining quality management systems within the framework of the upcoming revision of the ISO 9001:2026 standard. It examines how these digital tools enable intelligent processes, connected supply chains, and organizational structures that are more resilient, agile, and sustainable. AI is presented as the engine behind “Smart Quality,” capable of predicting failures, optimizing decisions, and enhancing customer experience. Blockchain is positioned as the cornerstone of traceability and decentralized trust, while IoT enables massive real-time data collection for continuous improvement. Furthermore, it is emphasized that these technologies, far from replacing humans, strengthen their role within the digital production ecosystem. ISO 9001:2026 is set to be the standard that will guide these transformations, promoting a technological integration that aligns with the principles of sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility.
