Abstract

The ISO 9001 standard is the most widely used quality management standard globally, offering a framework for continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. The upcoming update, ISO 9001:2026, incorporates a renewed emphasis on digital transformation, where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is presented as a strategic enabler capable of redefining process, risk and stakeholder relationship management. However, there is a considerable gap in literature and practice regarding the effective integration of AI into certified quality management systems. The purpose of this chapter is to examine the interaction between ISO 9001:2026 and Artificial Intelligence, identifying the main challenges and opportunities arising from this convergence. Likewise, conceptual and practical guidelines are proposed to guide its implementation in different aspects of a quality management system. The discussion is supported by a documentary review of the evolution of the standard and current applications of AI, complemented by a prospective analysis of the requirements of the 2026 version.
