Abstract

This study investigates how artificial intelligence perceives and aesthetically constructs negative space in visual production processes. Rather than being merely a visual element, space functions as a communicative tool for meaning-making and audience engagement. How is this traditionally meaningful aesthetic choice interpreted by AI? To explore this, three models—DALL·E, Stable Diffusion, and Leonardo AI—were tested using identical textual prompts, and their use of space, composition, and figure placement were comparatively analyzed. The findings reveal model-specific approaches to spatial organization, raising the critical question: does AI merely fill space, or can it meaningfully employ it as a compositional strategy?
