Abstract
This chapter presents a comprehensive public health perspective on digital addictions, focusing on problematic behaviors associated with smartphones, social media, online gaming, and other digital platforms. It explores a range of adverse physical, psychological, and social outcomes linked to these behaviors, including sleep disturbances, mental health challenges, and impaired functioning. The chapter reviews key theoretical frameworks such as behavioral addiction models, cognitive-behavioral approaches, and socio-ecological perspectives to clarify mechanisms and risk factors. It also addresses the influence of social determinants, digital environments, and vulnerable populations. Building on these foundations, the chapter outlines evidence-based, community-level prevention and intervention strategies, emphasizing family, school, and healthcare settings. Interdisciplinary collaboration, health literacy, and policy development are underscored as essential to promoting sustainable and equitable public health responses to digital addictions.
