Abstract

The objective was to carry out a review of the value of the ecosystem services of the Tropical Ecosystem of the Low Deciduous Forest (LDF) of the Yucatan Peninsula and its value as cultural heritage. A review of scientific articles was carried out in the main search engines and those that met the search criteria were used. Human activities have led to a high deterioration in the native vegetation of the Yucatan Peninsula, as a result of the lack of knowledge of the great benefits that it provides to its inhabitants. The LDF provides nutrients for livestock that produces animal protein for the population of the cities and in the same way the hunting of wild species is used in rural communities, on the other hand, large areas are deforested that are used for grain cultivation without knowing the consequences of this change in vegetation. There are tree species in the LDF that have been exploited for use in furniture making, construction or in the charcoal industry and the nutraceutical value of LDF species is not widely disseminated in traditional human medicine and ethnoveterinary medicine for the control of parasitic species that affect traditional livestock. The above must be done in a rational way to continue with the benefit of its ecosystem services and not change the dynamics in this ecosystem of soils, water that can even change air quality.
