Abstract

The article examines the issues related to technology-enhanced foreign language learning, with a particular focus on the use of case study technology in the Internet environment, and its impact on developing Master’s degree students’ intercultural foreign language communicative competence (IFLCC). The analysis of pedagogical, methodical and special literature on the presented problem enabled us to thoroughly explore the capabilities of the case study technology as one of the innovative approaches to interactive forms of learning and to provide suggestions for its usage in Master’s degree students’ foreign language training in accordance with the requirements of the developed standards of higher education. The research emphasizes the importance of using information and communication technologies (ICT), which makes it possible to fill the case study with authentic materials and facilitate information search on websites related to the languages being studied. The criteria for compiling the case study technology to effectively contribute to the development of Master’s degree students’ IFLCC have been specified. A four-block model of Internet-based case study technology has been developed and presented schematically, highlighting its significance in the context of foreign language training. It has been noted that the learning tools for implementing this technology include both teaching and learning materials, as well as various ICT that provide informational support and guidance to students on their usage. The analysis of the survey results regarding the use of Internet-based case study technology in foreign language learning indicates a positive attitude toward the designed technology among Master’s degree students who are enthusiastic about combining it with other interactive teaching methods. The study contributes to the pedagogical discourse on academic innovation by integrating the case study method and ICT to improve Master’s degree students’ IFLCC. Future research could focus on сonducting a pedagogical experiment evaluating the effectiveness of the proposed technology and further implementation of Web 2.0 and Web 4.0 tools for creating, accessing and utilising case studies, taking into account the trends of Education 4.0 concept in Ukraine.
