Abstract

In this article, we will present a concrete experience that originated in a university, from which we can see how the predominant agricultural production model works in Brazil and how agroecology is an alternative production model for producing food and organizing people's lives. In particular, we will review the experience of the first “Pátio Agroecológico” (Agroecological Patio) of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) in the city of Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, Brazil. From a dialogue with some of its actors, and in the light of its implementation and operation dynamics, we will characterize the agroecological model as an alternative proposal to the prevailing model and the social consequences of a possible transition to agroecology as a horizon for the promoters of this project.
