Abstract

Based on the analysis of the clinical picture and the dynamics of the prooxidant-antioxidant system of oral fluid in children, the feasibility of using antioxidant drugs as part of the standard therapy of chronic catarrhal gingivitis in children with excessive nitrate intake has been substantiated. It has been established that the use of “Proteflazid” and “Imupret” has a positive effect on the course of the disease, which is manifested by a faster regression of clinical symptoms and an increase in the activity of antioxidant protection of the oral cavity. Participants and methods. Treatment and 2-year follow up of 52 children aged 12 with chronic catarrhal gingivitis living in nitrate-contaminated areas were carried out. Results. The dynamics of hygienic and periodontal indices showed positive changes in both groups, however, significant differences between them confirm the higher effectiveness of the proposed treatment method. Paraclinical studies showed normalization of free radical oxidation and antioxidant protection indicators in the observation subgroups, while in the comparison groups they remained significantly worse, which indicates incomplete recovery with standard treatment. The hygienic index in all groups improved after treatment with subsequent deterioration, which indicates insufficient effectiveness of preventive work.
