Abstract

<jats:p>The article examines the pedagogical foundations of developing professional competence among referees in combat sports. It emphasizes the integration of knowledge, skills, and values as the core components of professional growth. The study highlights pedagogical methods such as persuasion, training exercises, role modeling, encouragement, control, and reflection, which contribute to the formation of responsibility, self-control, and communication abilities. Special attention is given to training sessions, situational modeling, mentoring, and ethical education, which foster high standards of professional culture. Professional ethics is identified as a system-forming factor that ensures impartiality, honesty, fairness, respect for athletes’ dignity, responsibility, transparency of communication, and continuous improvement of refereeing standards. The article also underlines the importance of lifelong learning, which enables referees to update their knowledge according to rule changes, develop psychological resilience, enhance communication skills, and integrate modern pedagogical technologies into practice. Practical experience gained during competitions, combined with theoretical education and self-directed learning, is shown to be crucial for decision-making in real conditions. Psychological preparation and ethical self-education further strengthen referees’ ability to maintain objectivity and fairness under pressure. The use of technological tools such as video reviews and electronic scoring systems increases the accuracy and transparency of decisions. Overall, the article concludes that the professional competence of referees in combat sports is the result of a comprehensive pedagogical approach that combines educational, practical, and ethical dimensions, ensuring both high-quality officiating and the educational impact of sport.</jats:p>
