<jats:p>The present volume includes over 650 place‑names from southern Karelia – the traditional settlements of the Livvi‑speaking Karelian population. Each dictionary entry offers a description of an individual toponym: the Russian and Karelian names of the settlement, a history of its development based on historical sources and maps dating back to the 16th century, and an etymological explanation of the name’s origin. Thanks to this work, the authors have been able to reconstruct the names of the founders and earliest inhabitants of most villages and to reveal a range of historical and geographical facts.</jats:p>
