Abstract
<jats:p>The article examines translation strategies for charactonyms (speaking proper names/anthroponyms) in the TV series “Game of Thrones” (the dubbed version by Kravec-Records studio) based on 18 units selected for their representativeness of various motivation types. The study aims to identify stable patterns in the choice of translation strategies depending on the structural-semantic type of the name, allowing for the prediction of the preservation or loss of its internal form during interlingual transfer. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the systematic comparison of anthroponym motivation types (semantic, morphological, etymological, and plot-event-based) with dominant translation methods (calquing, transcription, transliteration, finding an equivalent, and complex transformation). This allowed for the first-ever identification of a stable correlation between these parameters within the audiovisual translation of fantasy works. The results show that calquing is the predominant strategy for names with a transparent morphological and semantic structure, whereas etymologically motivated names naturally lose their internal form during transcription, which, however, may be compensated for contextually or by preserving the cultural flavor. The established patterns contribute to the theory of translating onomastic vocabulary and can be applied in the practice of dubbing fantasy-oriented audiovisual works.</jats:p>
