Abstract

The relevance of the research. The creative activity of the outstanding Ukrainian composer, conductor, choirmaster, ethnographer, writer Oleksandr Koshyts is proposed to be considered from a new perspective and to explore the intellectual field of his creativity from the point of view of the contribution of the Ukrainian Folk Choir and its leader O. Koshyts to solving the problem of protecting national identity, national dignity, independence of Ukraine, opposing assimilation and absorption to Russification as one of the means of saving the Ukrainian nation. The purpose is to explore the potential of musical culture diplomacy in spreading information about Ukraine and uniting Ukrainians worldwide. Conclusions. Oleksandr Koshyts embodies a type of artist who integrated talent, national consciousness, scientific curiosity, and exceptional devotion to culture. His activities in emigration exemplify how culture can withstand political impotence, how an artist can become the voice of a people even in exile, and how Ukrainian song can resonate with hearts across any continent. Furthermore, it is imperative today to continue exploring the intellectual landscape of the creative work of O. Koshyts and his ensemble. This research should encompass not only the promotion of folk culture, the diplomatic cultural mission, and the analysis of the Ukrainian mentality (given that the choir consisted primarily of non-professional performers) but also the conceptual philosophy of their activities aimed at defending Ukraine's independence, asserting its distinctiveness, and opposing Russification throughout a historical process whose economic, socio-political, and cultural content and forms evolved over time. Amidst the complex historical circumstances of the 20th century, O. Koshyts emerged as a cultural ambassador for Ukraine, successfully disseminating the richness of the national choral tradition to the farthest reaches of the globe. While operating beyond the borders of his homeland, the artist not only managed to preserve the Ukrainian musical tradition but also effectively integrated it into the global cultural context. His legacy serves as a vital source for understanding the pivotal role of the diaspora in the formation of modern Ukrainian culture.
