Abstract
<jats:p>The monograph is devoted to the history of religion in Soviet society in the period from 1917 to 1939. The book analyzes not only the history of church-state relations, but also the process of changing the role of religion in society, the alienation of church property, and the destruction of the religious education system. The article examines the ethno—confessional aspects of Soviet policy towards religious organizations both in the center of the country and on the outskirts - Ukraine, Eastern Siberia, etc. The author relies on a wide range of sources, including those introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The main focus is on the analysis of these records: church, Soviet and party documents, as well as declassified documents of the Soviet security agencies. The book is intended for historians, religious scholars, sociologists and anyone interested in Russian history.</jats:p>
