Abstract

Abstract
To date, no empirical study has been done to help us understand the extent to which diverse socio-cultural and ethnic groups’ needs are addressed in meta-analytic and systematic reviews. Through this study, we aimed to understand the extent to which existing research evidence represents the needs of diverse socio-cultural and ethnic subgroups. Our review of 52 meta-analytic and systematic reviews published from 2015 to 2020 in Review of Educational Research demonstrated that the current practices are limited in providing inclusive, representative, unbiased, and thus more generalizable educational evidence for all individuals and communities, specifically for historically marginalized populations. Even more concerning is that despite many efforts for enhancing the inclusiveness in research such as federal guidelines, standards, and scholarly works, little or no change was made and thus the external validity of educational evidence remains questionable. Our study provides practical recommendations that improve the representativeness of educational research evidence.
