Abstract
Abstract
This chapter presents the impact evaluation of ANSPAC-Joven, a school-based intervention implemented by the Asociación Nacional Pro-Superación Personal (ANSPAC, or National Association for Personal Enhancement), a Mexican nongovernmental organization, in a secondary school in the city of Monterrey, Mexico. The study was financed by a private corporation. Following the program’s theory of change, and instruments derived from positive youth development (PYD) theory, the objective was to estimate the change in the PYD of the students attributable to the ANSPAC-Joven program. The data were obtained through questionnaires applied to the youth in two groups (control and experimental) and their parents. The methods used were difference-in-differences and propensity score matching. The results indicate that the ANSPAC-Joven program produced a statistically significant change in the participant’s PYD index; the change was larger for those participants who entered the program with indices below the group median.
