Abstract
Abstract
This chapter dismantles the enduring myth of a postracial America by showing how racial animus persists and intensifies despite the election of a Black president. It opens by exposing the resurgence of overt racism during and after the 2024 election, revealing how hate speech, violence, and social media normalize white supremacy under political sanction. The chapter examines Barack Obama’s presidency, demonstrating that his election, far from ending racism, provokes a backlash that exposes deep-seated prejudice and fuels resistance to his policies, leading to the rise of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. Through analyses of “color-blindness” and “whitelash,” it shows that many white Americans deny systemic racism, resent diversity, and embrace myths of white victimhood to preserve privilege and resist social change. Finally, the chapter calls on readers to confront these destructive myths with truth and moral courage, asserting that only by acknowledging and dismantling racism can Americans move toward genuine freedom and equality.
