Abstract
Abstract
This book exposes how white men in the West construct and sustain false narratives about Black people to justify domination and preserve power. It explains that these myths, whether imported or uniquely American, persist in modern society through discourse in law, religion, media, and education. The book identifies ten enduring myths—ranging from notions of Black inferiority to beliefs in white superiority—and demonstrates how they shape political rhetoric, policy, and culture. It reveals how figures such as Abraham Lincoln, George Wallace, and Donald Trump, along with white Christian nationalists, perpetuate these ideas both overtly and subtly. Finally, the book highlights emerging counternarratives that confront these racist myths and work to dismantle the structures of white supremacy.
