Abstract
Abstract
Many parents suffer from depression after having a baby, which can be both debilitating and distressing for the parent and their family. However, depression in the postpartum period often goes unrecognized, leaving parents struggling with its impact. Early identification and treatment of postpartum depression are essential in order to promote the best outcome possible for parents and their babies. This book presents a step-by-step evidence-based treatment to support parents with postpartum depression whilst working alongside a therapist. It covers goal setting, encourages helpful behaviors that reduce the depressive symptoms as
well as how to counter unhelpful avoidance, helps to manage unhelpful thinking by working out how to address rumination and build self-compassion, and finally helps to work out what has made a difference and how to stay well. There are also additional sessions covering how to manage distressing intrusive thoughts and deal with traumatic images/memories of the birth.
