Abstract

Abstract
Many parents experience depression after childbirth, which significantly affects them and their families. This book presents a step-bystep,evidence-based treatment to help therapists support parents with postpartum depression. The program takes a cognitive behavioral approach and consists of four modules: assessment and goal setting, which explores strengths, values, risks, and challenges; behavioral activation, which encourages helpful actions and counters avoidance; managing unhelpful thinking, which reduces rumination and builds self-compassion; and relapse prevention, which identifies what works and promotes long-term wellness. Additional sessions cover distressing intrusive thoughts and traumatic memories related to birth. Designed to be used alongside a companion workbook that includes practical worksheets and resources, this guide provides a structured, compassionate approach to early intervention. It empowers therapists to deliver effective care, aiming to improve outcomes for both parents and their babies.
