Abstract

Abstract
The recommended interval between a birth and a subsequent pregnancy is 12 months or more; intervals less than this puts the next pregnancy at higher risk of numerous adverse outcomes including preterm birth and neonatal death. This makes pregnancy prevention in the year following a birth particularly important. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of contraceptive methods can be reinstated immediately postpartum, irrespective of whether a woman is planning to breastfeed her child.
