Abstract
Abstract
The present volume, Cartographic Representations: Syntactic Computations and Interface Properties, investigates the interactions between syntax and semantics, pragmatics, morphology, and prosody—an area that reflects a significant trend in contemporary cartographic studies. It comprises 12 chapters, all of which revolve around the interplay between the empirical discoveries of syntactic cartography, the study of fundamental computational mechanisms, and the properties of the interfaces linking syntax with systems of sound and meaning. The chapters are organized into four parts, addressing general theoretical issues, the syntax of edges, wh-constructions and their interface properties, and the functional structure of IP-vP. Most chapters are revised (and in some cases substantially modified) versions of papers presented at the International Workshop on Syntactic Cartography. Collectively, these studies offer a coherent and comprehensive account of current debates in syntactic cartography, with particular emphasis on the role of interface representations.
