Abstract

Abstract
Culturally responsive assessments can help school personnel make data-based decisions that recognize the strengths and challenges associated with religious and spiritual (RS) diversity. This chapter summarizes current research on assessing the impact of religion and spirituality at both the school and individual levels and provides recommendations for implementation. At the school level, RS diversity can be assessed through reviews of records, surveys, focus groups, observations, and bullying reporting policies. Assessment at the school level can guide the development of school-based programs and identify students in need of more support. At the individual level, the chapter reviews the utility of various clinical interview questions, self-report measures, and genograms in assessing RS diversity. Culturally responsive individual assessment can identify the needs and strengths of students requiring more support. Best practice recommendations are summarized for school personnel regarding the implementation of RS assessment at the school and individual levels.
