Wells’s life as a writer, highlighting the astonishing range of subjects that he tackled across his long and varied career, stretching from the late Victorian years to the end of the Second World War, and the multiple genres across which he moved, including short stories, realist novels, science fiction, literary criticism, journalism, political pamphlets, and works of history, social science and biology. It also discusses the reasons why a Handbook is necessary and provides an outline of the structure and contents of the volume.</jats:p>
