Abstract
<jats:p>The United Kingdom (UK) care home sector is an essential component of our healthcare system. There are over 16,700 care homes in the UK, providing care to over 370,000 residents in England, 24,000 residents in Wales,33,000 in Scotland and 11,000 in Northern Ireland. This chapter outlines the various guidelines, policies and best practice recommendations. It explores the key statistics and mandatory school food standards for children in primary and secondary school settings in England, with a brief overview of other countries in the United Kingdom. The chapter summarises guidance and legislation relating to food service in early years and school years. Menu planning and design for school food throughout the UK are underpinned by statutory food standards in each of the countries. Dietitians and nutritionists employed to support food services oversee menu reviews at each term‐time change.</jats:p>
