PORE Metrics Methodology & Standards
A transparent, deterministic, and independently verifiable research-metrics framework for Poorvam scholarly publications.
“PORE Metrics aggregates publicly available scholarly metadata and first-party PORE activity data. Citation counts may differ between services because their coverage, matching methods, and update schedules differ. PORE Metrics is an informational research-discovery service and is not a substitute for Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Altmetric, or other proprietary bibliometric services.”
What PORE Metrics Measures & What It Does Not
The purpose of PORE Metrics is not to make Poorvam or its publications appear artificially prestigious. The purpose is to make scholarly activity discoverable, measurable, transparent, and independently verifiable.
PORE does not construct arbitrary journal rankings, author hierarchies, proprietary scores, or synthetic "impact factors." We provide transparent access to open bibliometric records harvested deterministically from trusted open scholarly registries.
- Open citation counts from OpenAlex
- Open citation counts from OpenCitations
- Official Crossref registration metadata
- Google Scholar independent verification links
- First-party aggregate readership tracking
- 100% deterministic & reproducible
- Not an "Impact Factor" or "CiteScore"
- Not an author or journal ranking system
- Not a commercial bibliometric substitute
- Not automated Google Scholar scraping
- Not an AI classifier or hallucinated score
- Not a gamified prestige platform
Primary Integrated Scholarly Data Sources
OpenAlex (OurResearch)
Global Open Scholarly Graph
OpenAlex is a completely open catalog of hundreds of millions of scholarly works, authors, and institutions. PORE indexes works by their canonical Digital Object Identifier (DOI), retrieving the verified cited_by_count, OpenAlex Work ID, publication year, open access status, and individual citing work records.
https://api.openalex.org/works/doi:{canonical_doi} → Canonical Work ID: W... → Public URL: https://openalex.org/works/{openalex_work_id}
OpenCitations (COCI)
Infrastructure for Open Scholarly MetadataOpenCitations is an independent scholarly infrastructure organisation dedicated to open citation data. Through the OpenCitations Index of Crossref open DOI-to-DOI citations (COCI), PORE retrieves verified citing DOI records.

Crossref (Official Registration Agency)
Official DOI Metadata RegistryPoorvam publications deposit scholarly metadata with Crossref. PORE synchronizes with Crossref's polite REST API to verify official registered titles, author affiliations, ORCID identifiers, and reference counts.

Google Scholar Verification
Verification & Discovery OnlyGoogle Scholar is currently provided as a verification/discovery link. PORE does not scrape Google Scholar or automatically reproduce its citation counts.
Scraping Google Scholar violates its terms of service and produces unreliable, unverified data. By providing canonical search links, readers and scholars can independently audit the indexing status and citations of any article directly on Google Scholar.
Citation Deduplication & Representation Rules
Different scholarly indices index citations at different speeds and possess varying publisher coverage. PORE follows strict deterministic rules when presenting metrics:
- No Blind Addition: PORE never adds OpenAlex (e.g. 8) and OpenCitations (e.g. 6) to produce an artificial sum of 14. This would double-count citing works present in both registries.
- Canonical DOI Deduplication: When computing Unique Citing Works Detected Across Integrated Sources, citing works are normalized by canonical lowercase DOI. Duplicate records across providers are resolved to a single unique entry.
- Conservative Merging: If a citing work lacks a DOI, PORE does not merge records solely based on title text similarity. False-positive deduplication is strictly avoided.
- Zero vs. Not Available: If a provider explicitly confirms zero citations,
0is displayed. If a record has not yet been fetched or is unavailable,Not availableis displayed. Zero is never conflated with missing data.
First-Party Readership & Privacy Model
PORE tracks first-party readership activity (record views, outbound reads, and downloads) strictly in aggregate. We do not store or expose IP addresses, personal identities, session trails, or private browsing data.
Subsystem Isolation & Journal Independence
PORE Metrics operates as an independent discovery and research layer. It accesses existing journal metadata in a strictly read-only manner. It never modifies, writes back, or alters the existing journal publication system, article controllers, models, or database schemas.
